SmartPath...the Final Frontier. These are the continuing voyages of the PeaceHealth Enterprise. Her on-going mission: to explore strange new workflows, to seek out new ways to improve care with new technologies, to boldly go where no person has gone before.
Ok, so we are not as cool as Star Trek, we don’t have Captain Kirk on the payroll, and Scotty isn’t around to beam any of us up; but we have SmartPath!
SmartPath is a dynamic and complex program that will enable patients, and authorized health providers, to securely share electronic health information at any time, from anywhere, to provide exceptional, safe and effective care. It was born as a vision to provide a full electronic medical record, internally and externally, to facilitate our patients care and grew to encompass the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH); in essence, Meaningful Use.
Your Information Technology (IT) department is working closely with business and clinical department leaders to implement the SmartPath program with our patients, caregivers and community in mind. Yes, many of these projects will directly impact you, however we are performing due diligence to ensure that we minimize as much direct impact as possible.
There are several components to SmartPath:
- SmartPath – includes all programs below as well as a few other projects to ensure PHSW achieves Meaningful Use
- SmartCare – includes projects that improve and directly impact patient care and caregivers, such as Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE)
- SmartConnect – includes projects enabling PHSW meet government requirements to share data
- SmartTech – includes projects that enhance desktop performance and accessibility
- SmartCodes – includes projects that ensure PHSW complies with requirements for ICD-10
What does all of this mean for you?
We will be communicating enhancements to existing functionality, timing of training and activations, and more to help you understand how this will impact you and your co-caregivers. Please read this information, actively participate in training, ask lots of questions and know what’s going on. We will have links to FAQ’s for each SmartPath area and you will be seeing and hearing more from the IT team and your manager regularly on what’s coming and how it may change how you care for our patients. |
