What’s SmartPath?

SmartPath is a dynamic and complex program that will enable patients, and authorized health providers, to securely share electronic health information at any time, from anywhere, to provide exceptional, safe and effective care. It was born as a vision to provide a full electronic medical record, internally and externally, to facilitate our patients' care and grew to encompass the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH); in essence, Meaningful Use.

Includes a variety of electronic and technology enhancements designed to ensure that PeaceHealth Southwest achieves its goals around the development of a highly functioning and meaningful electronic health record.  Learn more

Part of the overall SmartPath efforts, SmartCare includes projects that improve and directly impact patient care and caregivers, such as Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and other projects tied to documenting the patient care we provide through the electronic record.  Learn more

Includes projects that ensure PHSW complies with requirements for ICD-10 coding changes mandated by the government. The number of diagnostic and procedural codes used today will increase dramatically in 2013. SmartCodes communication will help us keep up with the flow of information and education related to the ICD-10 conversion.  Learn more

Includes those projects that enhance desktop performance and accessibility. Over the next 6-18 months, PHSW is committed to reimaging and upgrading our hardware and software components to help us fully integrate with the PeaceHealth system and move us forward on other SmartPath projects, such as CPOE.  Learn more

Is another piece of the SmartPath work that focuses on meeting a government requirement for sharing health information data. When providers outside our system need critical patient information such as lab results, imaging reports, and discharge summaries, they’ll be able to access it.  Learn more

Seeing is Believing!

Our "CPOE Solutions" event in late May offered a realistic preview of how computerized physician order entry will help us improve efficiencies and quality as patient care is coordinated between providers, nurses and pharmacists.

We hope all who attended took away valuable insight into this major PeaceHealth initiative. If you weren't able to attend the event, you may want to view a video summary available through your clinical manager. You may also read a summary of Questions and Answers from the event by clicking here.

PHSW launches Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) on three pilot units (Behavioral Health, Clinical Decision Unit, and 4West) on June 26. We'll have our big bang go live for all other clinical units on July 24. Be prepared!
