Dollie & Ed Lynch Pledge $1 million to PeaceHealth Southwest Foundation

Two of Clark County’s most respected residents, Dollie and Ed Lynch, have announced plans to give $1 million to the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Foundation. The Lynch gift comes on the heels of a record year of giving to the Foundation, which has raised nearly $39 million since September, 2005.

Dollie and Ed Lynch pledged $1 million dollars to the Southwest Washington Medical Center Foundation.
The Lynches share strong ties to the Medical Center, having served on hospital Boards as far back as 1985. Dollie Lynch is a former member of PeaceHealth Southwest’s Foundation Fundraising Committee. Ed Lynch is a former Chairman of the hospital’s community Board of Directors and was active on the Board from 1985-1995. He now serves on the Foundation Board of Directors.

The Lynches have not specified how the money should be spent, instructing PeaceHealth Southwest to use the funds where they’re needed most as part of the community-owned hospital’s capital campaign.

“Dollie and Ed Lynch stand out in this community as philanthropists who give of their time and their resources to causes that benefit all of us in Clark County,” said Joseph Kortum, PeaceHealth Southwest President and CEO. “As a community, we continue to be blessed by their leadership, commitment and generosity,” added Kortum.

The Lynches support several community organizations including: PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, The Free Clinic of Southwest Washington, The Vancouver National Historic Reserve, Identity Clark County, the I Have a Dream Foundation, the Confluence Project, Clark County Skills Center, as well as the local YWCA and YMCA. In addition, they are contributors to The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

All donations made to the Foundation are directed to the program or department specified by the donor. Should a donor have no specific request, the donation is marked unrestricted. Unrestricted donations offer the most flexibility, allowing the Foundation to allocate funds to areas or programs of greatest need.

“The Medical Center is the best hospital around,” says Ed Lynch. “There’s a keen group of people there interested in trying to do a better job. It’s a hospital that cares. And, when it comes to quality, they are outstanding.”

The Lynch gift comes on the heels of a record year of philanthropic support for the Medical Center Foundation. In September, 2005, E. W. and Mary Firstenburg, founders of First Independent Bank, announced a $15 million gift to the Medical Center Foundation. The money is being used for construction and the purchase of essential medical equipment for the Firstenburg Patient Tower. And, in December 2005, Patricia and David Nierenberg announced a gift of $15 million in challenge grants benefiting the Medical Center’s Women’s and Children’s Center of Excellence, including a $2 million gift for the construction of the new Holtzman Twins Special Care Nursery at the Family Birth Center.

Anyone interested in following the Lynches’ example and making a donation to the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Foundation can contact the Foundation at 360-514-3106 for a giving form, or make a donation online.
