| What is a Research Study?
A research study can be an experiment, investigation, survey, or questionnaire that evaluates or tests new or existing drugs, medical equipment, procedures or clinical therapies that lead to or contribute to generalized information.
The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) defines:
Research as "A systematic investigation, including research development, testing and evaluation, designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge" [45 CFR 46.102.(d )]
Human Subjects as "Living individual (s) about whom the investigator (whether professional or student) conducting research obtains (1) data through intervention or interaction with the individual, or, (2) identifiable private information" [CFR 46. 102(f) 1-2)].
