Sleeve Gastrectomy is performed by removing approximately 80% of the stomach.  This creates a small tubular stomach (sleeve).

Different than the bypass it causes no mal-absorption of nutrients.  So anemia, osteoporosis and vitamin deficiencies are rare.*

Different than the band, there is no foreign body around your stomach.  Patients can continue to take complex medications after a sleeve and not worry about the absorption of medication.  The procedure is usually performed with laparoscopy and has a short recovery time.

The sleeve gastrectomy helps you lose weight because:

  1. The stomach pouch is very small
  2. Removal of the stomach area that produces Ghrelin and decreases hunger
