If you have diabetes, you have plenty of questions. At PeaceHealth Southwest, our physicians and diabetes educators are here to help you best care for yourself and live a longer, healthier life. As an American Diabetes Association recognized program, we also work with your primary doctor to best manage and individualize your diabetes treatment.

Comprehensive programs to help just about anyone.
Intensive Diabetes Management, by appointment.
Led by our endocrinologists, Michael Barsotti, MD, and Katherine Chubinskaya, MD, the expert team also includes nurse educators and registered dietitians. Intensive therapy may include changes in oral medications, insulin injections or insulin pump therapy.

Individual Education, by appointment.
If you need additional support to self manage your diabetes, our certified diabetes educators provide one-on-one counseling.

Diabetes Self-Management Class, held weekly.
During 10 hours of self-management education in a group setting, you will learn tools and techniques to successfully manage your diabetes. The class starts with a personal session.

Sessions cover:
  • Self blood sugar monitoring
  • Complications that could affect the heart, kidneys, eyes, or feet
  • Selecting over-the-counter drugs
  • Making healthy food choices at home and away from home
  • Understanding food labels
  • Guidelines for safe physical activity
Registered Dietitian Counseling, by appointment.
Nutrition impacts many diseases and health conditions. Our dietitians provide one-on-one counseling services for people of all ages to help them adjust and get the most out of their food and nutrition needs.

Diabetes update, quarterly.
Community education program offered quarterly and featuring topics of interest ranging from travel preparedness to holiday travel tips. Free.

Comprehensive Pregnancy Education
For women with diabetes during pregnancy we offer expert care to promote healthier moms and babies.  Your care is coordinated with your physician. Blood glucose training and meal planning are provided by trained nurses and dietitians.
