Rehab Physician Recognized for Specialized Pain Medicine Training
07/27/2010
Jaime Nicacio, MD, Southwest Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), was recently awarded diplomat status by the American Board of Pain Medicine. The recognition is granted to physicians who demonstrate advanced training and experience in Pain Medicine. They must also pass a special certification exam.
Similar to a board certification for other providers, this advanced certification sends a strong message to patients about the high level of physician expertise in Pain Medicine here at Southwest. Dr. Nicacio is one of two physicians at Southwest’s PM&R with specialized certification in pain medicine. A photo of Dr. Nicacio is attached to the electronic release.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Southwest’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) practice is focused on restoring the health and functional abilities of people after illness or injury. Often referred to as a physiatrist, these medical providers help those who have had a stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, bone or joint pain, back and spine issues, work injuries or chronic pain. The staff is dedicated to determining the cause of pain or limitations and then developing the best plan of management. Working together with other physicians, psychologists, nurses, and therapists, they help their patients return to their highest levels of independent functioning.
The Southwest PM&R team includes:
• Robert Djergaian, MD, Medical Director (also certified in pain medicine)
• John Hart, DO
• Jaime Nicacio, MD
• Alma Jared Garcia, DO
• Dan Kelley McBride, PA-C
