Southwest Supports Haiti Relief
01/28/2010
Southwest Washington Medical Center is supporting relief efforts in Haiti this week by donating life-saving medications and essential medical supplies for use by aid workers in the earthquake ravaged nation.
Southwest’s Materials Management and Pharmacy teams coordinated the packaging and shipment of IV antibiotics, oral antibiotics, and IV tubing needed for recovering victims of the tremors in Haiti. The medical supplies were delivered by Amin Bokhari MD, The Vancouver Clinic. Dr. Bokhari working with the nonprofit Humanity First http://humanityfirst.org/ flew to Haiti with the supplies last week.
Southwest’s Materials Management team also worked with a key vendor, Owens and Minor, to fulfill a need request by the nonprofit group Evergreen for Kids. Evergreen for Kids representatives were scheduled to head to the Dominican Republic on a health support mission when they were diverted to Haiti. A representative from the group asked Southwest for a couple hundred individual bars of soap, but a key hospital vendor, Owens and Minor, stepped up and donated an entire case with 1,000 small bars of soap.
Southwest has also set up a special website where you can review some of the top relief agencies working in Haiti and research which one you might want to support with financial assistance. To find out more, please log on to www.swmedicalcenter.org/relief.
There’s also a helpful link on the page to learn more about preparing a disaster supply kit for your home in case of a major disaster.
