What is a CNM?
A certified nurse midwife (CNM) is a registered nurse who is trained in nursing and midwifery. A CNM provides health care involving emotional and physical support to women before, during, and after childbirth.
Certified nurse midwives have specialized training in assisting pregnant women and their newborn babies. To be certified, a CNM must complete an accredited program of study and clinical experience in obstetrical care.
Certified nurse midwife provides a variety of services:
- Gynecological checkups
- Family planning services
- Preconception care
- Prenatal and postpartum care
- Delivering babies
