Volunteer opportunities are carefully matched to your skills, experience and desires. After a thorough orientation as a Cancer Center volunteer, your time may be spent:
- Greeting and welcoming patients and visitors to the Cancer Center
- Providing support to patients receiving chemotherapy treatment, such
as a warm blanket or a compassionate ear
- Supporting a patient undergoing a diagnostic procedure
- Providing clerical support, such as preparing charts or stocking supplies
- Assisting Cancer Center staff and physicians at cancer screenings and special events, such as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life
- Providing emotional support to a newly diagnosed cancer patient
- Providing practical support to patients and their families, such as
holiday giving, making chemo caps or wrist bands, and more
Requirements
We request that volunteers commit to a minimum of six months to one year of service. All volunteers attend our orientation and training session. Specific volunteer roles also require additional training.
Cancer Center volunteers should be:
- Compassionate and caring
- Flexible in meeting the changing needs of the patient and family
- Accepting of diverse lifestyles, cultures, faiths and values
- Reliable, responsible and dependable
- Capable of maintaining confidentiality
- Able to meet the physical and emotional demands of volunteering
