| Board certified in Family Medicine
Dr. Baker graduated from
the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1987 and completed residency at
Providence St. Peter Family Medicine in Olympia, Washington. While serving 2
years in the Navy as a medical officer on a battleship, he spent time in Saudi
Arabia and Kuwait in Desert Storm. After these international experiences, he
went into private practice for 6 years.
In addition to his work as a part-time faculty for FMSW,
Dr. Baker developed and directs a local church-based primary care clinic for
patients with no insurance. Through his church, he has enjoyed humanitarian
medical trips to Southern Africa and Kenya. Recently, he has helped in the
development of a rural community health program in Papua (formerly Irian Jaya),
Indonesia. He is also the director of the Summer Medical Institute
in Vancouver, a faith-based project in which he takes a medical team to
Papua each summer to help with medical care in remote tribal
villages. His many travels and additional specialized training have given him an interest in travel medicine
consulting at FMSW. Advice, immunizations, and prophylactic medications are readily available
to patients planning travel to foreign countries.
In his free time, Dr. Baker loves fishing, camping,
soccer and baseball with his family. He is married with 2
children.
